At Imagnary House, we love to support the wonderful efforts of other publishers, authors and illustrators within the publishing industry, especially when those efforts are targeted at relieving the stress of explaining a worldwide pandemic to our children. In this vein, we are happy to guide our readers to the freely available digital version of Coronavirus: A Children's Book.

We would also love to take this opportunity to highlight one of our amazing authors, Emily House, who wrote and illustrated Earth Takes a Break in early 2020 as an child-friendly ode to the era of pandemic lockdown.

What is Coronavirus: A Children's Book?

The incredibly popular and talented illustrator of The Gruffalo, Axel Scheffler, has illustrated an informative and accessible book on covid-19 for primary school children of ages 5 - 9. The book, written by staff of Nosy Crow, helps to explain the coronavirus and the measures taken to control it, answering questions in a child-friendly way, such as why our daily routines have been disrupted and what we can each do to help.

Published by Nosy Crow, this diverse coronavirus kid's storybook has had expert input from Professor Graham Medley of the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, as well as two headteachers and a child psychologist. It not only explains the pandemic that the world has been experiencing since early 2020, but it also offers kid-friendly information on covid symptoms in children, how the virus hops from person to person, and what protection a vaccine offers us.

The book answers key questions in simple language appropriate for 5 to 9 year olds:
  • What is the coronavirus?
  • How do you catch the coronavirus?
  • What happens if you catch the coronavirus?
  • Why are people worried about catching the coronavirus?
  • Is there a cure for the coronavirus?
  • Why are some places we normally go to closed?
  • What can I do to help?
  • What’s going to happen next?
